These were removed from an early structure in an old part of Fresno, CA on Van Ness Blvd, just north of the CA-180 yesterday. I found them last week but was too busy to detour from my work list. Our maintenance chief pulled them for me while running some replacement phone cable. Originally they were literally frozen in place by many layers of paint but after carefully and gently coaxing the paint away from the loops I was astonished to see that they were made of wood!
