Along with this image is a very old (probably GE) Acorn style incandescent street light that was similar in design to enclosed arc lights back in the early 1900s. Of interest, conversion kits were offered by GE and others who made similar luminaires so that the arc light innards or "guts" could be pulled out and converted to the newly, more efficient incandescent light sources from the teens and afterwards...while retaining the entire rest of the fixture. Photo taken near the intersection of East 14th Street and Argonne Avenue during March 1969. Utility equipment was owned by Southern California Edison. |
