1950s Rural Scene in VT with Surge Sidepin Insulators

Most of us have seen the old ads for these. However in my many years of collecting I've never come across any of these insulators in use...nor an actual in-service photo of them, either.

Recently I *did* come across this very interesting image, taken by the Cooperative Extension Service in Vermont. In the foreground you can clearly see pairs of Surge insulators with their sidepins along the farmer's fence-post line. At first glance I thought they were standard telephone insulators however upon closer inspection I am confident they are the little Surge ones. Enjoy ;-)
