THROTTLING THE RAILROADS by Clarence B. Carson. Softcover, 132 pages. Written in 1971, arguably at the lowest point in the declining history of North America's railroads following the collapse of the Penn Central. Essentially an extended essay on the alarming deterioration of America's railroads. It's quite an interesting book, well written without getting long-winded. Carson has an obvious bias - in his view, the enemy is the Federal Government in the form of stifling legislation, taxation, regulation and competitor subsidies (highways, air). The other enemy are the railroad worker unions. Decent clean copy, no bends or tears. $4. SANTA FE - STEEL RAILS THROUGH CALIFORNIA by Donald Duke and Stan Kistler. Hardcover, 184 pages. A treasure trove of black & white photos of steam-era Santa Fe in California from San Francisco bay to San Diego to the Colorado River. Decomissioned library book with some cover and spine wear and tear. The pages are all clean, no tearing or bending. $7. Please specify shipping preference and zip code for a postage quote. Options - parcel post, priority or media rate (cheapest).
