(Photo swiped from SD DOT site) Workers repainting the circuit risers on the bridge as part of a major rebuild currently underway. Line is a 69kV tie line between West Central REC and NorthWestern Energy (line was most likely originally erected as a 33kV line by the Central West Public Service Co.). The bridge is a conglomeration of two separate, older, bridges - the larger spans from a nearby bridge to a now-submerged park and 5 of the 6 smaller spans were moved north from Wheeler, SD; the 6th span was built to the same specs as the other 5. The line on the bridge replaced an older river crossing span and which wires were reportedly low enough to make moving the Wheeler bridge segments into place difficult. |
