Photo taken in June 1969 along Los Coyotes Avenue near Palo Verde representing some *really* interesting suspension wood pole line architecture belonging to Southern California Edison. This 66kv circuit employed heavy fog type suspension insulators. Note the poles in the background outfitted with extended tops for their uppermost crossarms. Really cool given all of the weight these extensions had to burden. Having been in the electric utility business for many years I understand the purpose of transposing high voltage lines like you see here (and elsewhere in this gallery) is to achieve a better level of three-phase electrical balance along the circuit. |
