In 1900 an electrified 3rd rail interurban began operation between Albany and Hudson, N.Y.. Rail service was discontinued in 1929. I am not sure when or if the original power line was ever upgraded. The power line consisted of several different circuits operating at both 25 and 60 cycles. Power was produced at the Stuyvesant Falls hydro plant. In the original construction the line used large and small Boch patents and south of Stuyvesant falls, the U-944 at scattered locations. The line supplied power for both the interurban and local towns along the line for domestic lighting . Shown here are both the original and early replacement insulator types I found on this line the replacements included the M-2120 Ohio Brass and the U-709 marked thomas. There is a very good chance that many of the large Boch patent insulators in collections as well as U-944 specimens came from this line. The line was hunted in the 1960's and 70's by collectors who sold most of what they found into the hobby [id=306014261] to see more. I found all of these insulators in the last few days on the line . The line also had telephone circuits that used Brookfield ponies, CD 128 Pennyquick blob tops and CD 202 Locke #14 tramps. Here is a view of the line still in service [id=306015415] Judging by the vast quantities of white Boch insulators used I am surprised more of the big ones are not around... |
