I actually went and heard Deep Purple play Smoke on the Water at the Long Beach Arena, Long Beach California way back in 1974. Of course that has nothing to do with this deep purple colored beehive. I'm adding this pic upon a request of a famous long time member of Icon who was considering buying it if it looked darker then the one he already has. He had seen the insulator in a group of three California insulators in the for sale album and wanted a pic of the insulator by itself. Those this pic. When I first received the insulator myself I thought it was much darker then any others I have ever had. Anyhow, the person who made the request decided it was about the same shade of purple that he already had. But who knows for sure? Any collector knows you have to have any two insulators in hand to compare colors being pics are not all that reliable.
