This photo, likely taken in the 1920's or 30's, shows the main transmission line poles of the Yamhill Electric Co. marching down the main street of rural Dayton, Oregon. The Yamhill Electric Co. was a county-wide (and then some) power utility named after the county it served and built a transmission line serving all it's towns using recycled and now scarce gray Thomas M-3158 multipart insulators. The Yamhill company was merged into the Portland General Electric Co.(PGE), in 1938 and now serves the county today. Looking at this photo, I would like to say that I want one of those M-3158's but already have the only known example. I will gladly take more and can't help but wonder what happened to the thousands of them once used! Photo from Yamhill County Historical Society. |
