Finally I am getting out just as the snow is melting away.... on my first hunt of the new year I got some nice new things to report ! This is a totally new Fred Locke find I just dug this weekend in Victor, N.Y. ! It will need some chip repair on the outer rim but the insulator is basically whole and unbroken. It has marking 1-8a and is a non glazeweld unipart similar to the U-964b. It interestingly has an applied crown like some of Fred Locke's other early types including the M-2842, and M-2785 a second damaged specimen was found with marking 6-2 I am not sure if this deserves an new U-# but it sure is cool! It is 7 1/2" wide and 6" tall. I will post more pictures after I repair it. This appears to be the original insulator used for the catalog drawing of the Locke #100 in the 1902 catalog . The #100 later became the glaze welded U-964 which was one of Fred Locke's most popular insulators and is one of the most common larger unipart Fred Locke pin types in collector hands. this is what the crown looks like from the top [id=305231842] |
