Recently acquired via the E-place are these 3 small glass spools are from Montevideo, Uruguay. The spools are crudely made. Click on View Original to see greater detail The lighter spool causes me to believe it contains manganese cullet, while the other two could well be of an earlier manufacturing time. 1890-1920 The light purple [ left ] measures Height 1 5/8", width 1 7/8", pinhole 1/2" The centre spool is 2" high, 2 1/2" wide, with a 5/8" pinhole The dark purple is a bit wonky measuring 1 1/4" high on one side and 1 1/2" high on the other, it is 1 7/8" wide at the top and 2 1/8" wide at the base, with a 3/4" pinhole I am trying [ without much success ] to find out more about the 1900-1920 glass spool and insulator manufacturers of Uruguay. I would appreciate any leads you can provide me with. South American glass insulator knowledge seems lacking. Other than for the Colombian Zicme and Tel-Com production, Uruguayan Codarvi and SAFNV glass insulators, and Vidrart of Argentina, there seem very little data available, and even less from the 1890-1920 era Do you know of any insulator collectors in Uruguay, or perhaps a knowledgeable contact or historian of insulator or glass production in the area . Any help would be greatly appreciated |
