This porcelain waffle top Battery Rest has a glazing to the outer surface. It is very similar to the Glass CD 24 except this insulator size is 1- 11/16 inches tall by 2-1/2 inches wide. This is a very early example of a battery rest that was prone to failure. The glazing was found to be unreliable because it wore off easily and the porcelain then absorbed water and acid and created a path for leakage. This insulator looks like it has never been used.
