These pottery insulators (not porcelain) were found both with a brown glaze and with a clear glaze. Sometimes the clear glaze had a faint blue tint to it, visible in areas where it had pooled or dripped from the clay body. Both are attributed to Medalta Pottery of Redcliff, Alberta and are found unmarked. The old Medalta pottery works in Redcliff Alberta is now a historic site. The beehive kilns are still there, but are slowly deteriorating. Medlata and 5 other local industries got their clay from a huge deposit, hence the name Redcliff. Medalta made 3 styles of insulators but are mostly known for their large crockery jugs with the brown glaze bands on the top.
