Holding my breath, I pulled it out of the dirt and turned it over. After 110 years of service, exposure to the elements, falling from the pole and then surviving various hazards on the ground, most of these are pretty rough by the time you find them. This is the best one I have yet found "in the wild"! Only a few minor bruises on the skirt and a very small flake on one ear. What a great way to end the day! My first wild find of the year.
