I obtained this awesome EC&M sidepin arrangement in a collection a couple of days ago, but I'm concerned about the fragility of the lichens. With the slightest breath you can see them shedding. If anyone knows of a proper preservation technique please let me know. I have heard that hairspray works well on cut flowers, but I want to be sure I use a somewhat professional method so this piece can be enjoyed for many years by me and others after me.

Responses: Suggestions included hairspray, glycerin, lacquer, 50/50 mix of water & white glue, or just a misting of plain water on occasion. One museum contact stated they preserve their dried lichens naturally with no preservation materials, just keep them away from direct lighting as much as possible. I believe at this point I will follow the last suggestion. Thanks to Pete, Steve, Powell and especially Zac who posted my query to a museum group that provided some great feedback!
