The CPR railway ran alongside the river, but was abandoned when a flood destroyed a big trestle in 1955. This flood also pretty much wiped out the whole (ghost) town of Nearby Sandon. The power station there (still in operation today with original equipment) was higher on the hillside so was not destroyed by the flood.) Sandon is a popular ghost town now and gets a lot of tourist traffic in the summer. The old power plant is open to the public.
