Alamo was a town on a CPR Kettle Valley spur along Carpenter Creek near Sandon, BC. A little research and I found out Alamo had a population of over 200, a post office, houses, railway station, etc in 1904. A mining town, it was practically deserted when the great depression caused the closure of all the area mines. Only one household remained, the original mine owner lived there till 1955 when a flood cut off rail access permently. On the topographical maps it shows Alamo being at the highway where the road to Sandon branches off. Fortunately for Alamo, this is incorrect and the actual town is up the river about 2 miles. Because of its inaccessibility, most of the artifacts are still intact. Anything too heavy to carry out on your back is still there, just where it was left, many decades before. |
