Here are a couple of insulators that stand out in the crowd for their lack of color and their sparkly clearness. If a peacock blue insulator is the life of the party, these guys are the strong silent type not caught up in the flashy trends going on around them. They have a certain understated and confident sophistication, appealing to those who appreciate subtlety and nuance. Or something. LOL

On the right, a smooth base CD 145 [100] in clear. Well, as clear as clear could be made back then, and with so much more character and flavor than the sterile modern clear glass. Condition I would say is VNM. Negative issues: Mostly flat base flake shown in picture of base - only slightly noticeable from rear display. One smaller-than-BB-size ping on the upper rear crown that may even be an open bubble (I need to go buy a magnifying glass!). A hardly-noticed very small flake on the inside of the skirt base. A minor internal fissure in the top of the pin hole that appears to be an annealing or other manufacturing issue (the picture on the upper left shows it at it's absolute worst - it's only on the interior pinhole surface and doesn't really even extend into the dome glass). Also a couple of very minor wire rubs. Offering a complete list of flaws like that always makes it sound much worse than it is, but I want to be accurate. However, it certainly displays beautifully! $49 shipped. ($75-100 book)

On the left, a smooth base CD 164 [020]. The Price Guide lists several tint variations, including an off clear and a clear. The majority of this insulator appears very similar to it's buddy on the right, although seems in some light to be ever-so-slightly grayer. The dome area has a very slight, but undeniable purple tint, but only in the top inch of the insulator. The Price Guide color choices leave this guy without an obvious match. It's overall a slightly grayish clear with purple tint in the dome. So, is it clear? Off-clear? Purple tint? Some unlisted two-tone? I won't try to answer it. The pictures on my monitor look pretty accurate, so hopefully you can judge for yourself. In any case, it's a very intriguing piece. Condition I would say is VNM+. The only flaws are a minor wire rub or two, a couple of very small rough spots on the front upper wire ridge, and one wire ridge goober on the back, visible in the picture on the upper right. Display is close to mint. $119 shipped.

Discount if you buy both: $149 shipped. Any form of payment accepted, including PayPal. Returns are fine if you think my descriptions were off the mark or you're just not happy.
