Up for sale is the last of the heavily tie-wired CD 164s I was able to retrieve from London Hydro. These pieces were used on low-voltage power drops that ran throughout the older suburbs in London, Ontario. By now well over 80% of these lines have long ago been upgraded, though a few remain with aqua glass sparkling in the sun. These lines were raised in probably around 1910 or so. It is astonishing to think that they are still being used to supply power to houses in many parts of London.

This piece is a Brookfield CD 164 in the [030] embossing style with "NEW YORK" on the rear skirt, and a backwards '5' on the dome top. The insulator itself it quite common, but the tie wire on this piece is just incredible. From weighing the piece and comparing it to the weight of a regular [030] Brookfield 164, it looks like this piece has about a half a pound of copper attached to it. That's quite a lot for a single insulator! The Brookfield has a couple chips - one 1/2" flake off the lower side of the upper wire groove on the left side of the front, and another two similarly sized wire groove flakes in front of and behind the right mould line. There is one other tiny ping on the right side of the upper wire ridge, right on top of the mould line itself. There is also a 1/2" long flat base flake just below the "IELD" embossing on the front base, and a 2 1/2" long flat base flake in the rear base. The piece displays well from the front. It has not been cleaned, and all of the above chips are covered in a goodly layer of soot from years of use along a suburban lane way. There is also a 1" long annealing crack in the threads in the front half of the insulator.

I'm asking $12.00 U.S. plus shipping for this piece. I accept PayPal, and personal cheques or money orders from any member of ICON, or anyone I've dealt with before. Please feel free to email me for more photos, or with any questions. I encourage you to look through my "For Sale (Not Sold)" stock, and combine items to save on shipping.
