Unlike the Hemi No.9's that began production in early 1893, the double groove version was for the earliest period made as the CD 114 No.11. This style paralleled No.9 production through two evolutionary phases before the No.12 replaced it around 1895. Script embossed No.12's are quite scarce. Evo-2 marked units are very rare in either the No.9 or the No.12. Here we see examples of both. What sets an Evo-2 lettering style apart from the rest is a very uniform engraving like the more common Prismic style, but it is done with the lighter, freehand engraving of the Script style. These rarely have color beyond the typical aqua of the period, however the No.9 manages a fair squiggle of olive to make it interesting. The No.12 is an odd dynamic blue with a light milkiness.
