A photo of the Waconda electric substation of the Oregon Electric Railway near Brooks, OR. This was taken long after the "electric' part of the railway was removed and diesel powered freight trains now roar by it today. From the looks of it at the time of this photo, (1965), the old gentleman, was either living in it or using it as a storage shed. This is odd because the building is on raiload property and has always been owned by the rail line. So I can only assume that the old guy was a "squatter"! Or, a railroad worker. The building is an empty shell today with much grafitti in view. When I was younger, our crowd always referred to them as "The Alamo" due to the Spanish motif of the 1906 construction and the fortress like solid concrete. During those days I actually changed my oil in one of my cars inside of one to get out of the rain!
