To remove the remaing pieces of iron, and also to clean out the pinhole, muriatic acid was poured into the pinhole. After just some days and some changes of acid, the acid had eated away so much metal that the small remaining fragments could be pryed away with the tip of a thin screwdriver. This pic shows the pinhole much cleaner but still with pieces of pin stuck.
