Now the real work begins! With a square file, which can be seen to the right, the thinnest part of the pin is filed away with short strokes. As the hole itself is not that deep, one has to use short and controlled strokes back and forth, slowly filing and eating away the metal. Controlled strokes? Well, if you pull out the file too far it will land and maybe scratch the inner skirt. So eazzy going here... You can see all that iron dust on the newspaper.

I think this work took something like six or seven evenings in front of the TV. Do I need to add that my hands were hurting a bit? I filed down the pin to the point where the porcelain started to be visible. See next picture taken from the opposite side.
