Well its not really what i would call in service, but its about to be, i have salvaged these crossarms from the L&N railyard as i got permission from the local supervisor of the signal dept to come and get them, i also found the wire today along an embankment where they cut the poles down with the wire and left them because they could not pick them up out of the embankment. there were no insulators left, as i picked those 4 years prior to comming back for the wire around the time that the poles were dismanteled and taken down. as one CSX signal employee told me "In the next 10 years there wont be anymore open wire around as most railroads are phasing out the open wire in favor for satalite and fiber optic cabling. as with all open wire its a hassle to maintain and costly, and we just can't do it anymore" he also told me to take as many arms as i liked, i would of got more, but the trailer was full of other stuff, he said i could come back tommorow :). |
