Here is a better view of this disaster! The salt air and moisture had been eating away at this galvanized pin since around 1981 according to the date on the insulator. Once it arced over for good the heat melted it and scorched the pole. The linemen said they wanted to take this to their standards meeting to show them how much trouble they are having with these old NGK U-876 jobs near the surf. But they let me have it instead and decided to just take an insulator of the same type. I told them I was going to put it on the Internet and they said 'What"? ;) The only steel that holds up in that area is stainless steel. They do have stainless steel transformers and meter bases but I have never seen a stainless steel pin in use. Sorry about the reflection on the lens!
