In my opinion the M-3890 is the most photogenic collectable porcelain insulator ever made. I have been very fortunate to be able to dig up a few of these incredibly historic insulators over the last few years and restore them along with the Nicholson arcing rings . This is how one of these would have looked in service . They come in a wider variety of colors then any other large multipart and range from a dark brown to nearly white with a peachy blond tint. A very rare few are marked with the New Lexington, O marking. This insulator specimen now belongs to Chris Hedges and gets the distinction of being the very first complete one recovered by modern collectors . The massive solid steel shaft pin was used on the large steel tower structures . The pin alone ways 30 pounds. The pin and ring were sandblasted and hot dip galvanized to restore there original finish the pin was found in a swamp where the chemicals in the swamp water had stripped off most of the original plaiting. The last time a living person saw one of these insulators before now was likely in the mid 1920's
