I just picked up the white U-242 on the left at the Pole cats show in Ct. . It is identical to the tan blond Fred Locke on the right in all respects . These are sleepers that many collectors may see as a Pittsburg product but they are actually 1903-05 Victor production pieces making them amongst the first wet process porcelain signals made in the US. They, like many early Fred Locke uniparts, were made in two part molds giving them a visible mold line. This characteristic vanished within a year of Fred Locke's leaving the company in 1904 on most uniparts and all multipart top skirts . Most Fred Locke collectors recognize early unmarked specimens like this with mold lines as Fred Locke pieces. Early U-242 specimens seem very scarce to me.
