Jeff kaminski and I spent the weekend in western New york digging and sightseeing this last weekend . Wile we could not take this pole home with us (Jeff shure wanted to...) it was quite a find to get the chance to see one of these structures still standing. The A-frame type pole structures like this were once common place in western New York on the lines of the Niagara Lockeport and Ontario Power co. This type of pole framing was phased out by the early 1930's This structure likely had M-3890's on it when it was first erected .[id=257545232] to see what these poles looked like when first erected. The insulators you see are stacked gray Ohio Brass crosstop multi's that were installed in the 1920's. The top insulator has lost a few skirts in a flashover. Jeff Kaminski is standing at the base of the pole ... He is a man who truely loves BIG mud!! We had a fun weekend which included finding a few gray OB crosstops in the wild along with some damaged M-3890s and a three bolt M-3890 pin for For Jeff to take home. this line now operates as a 33kV 60 cycle sub trans line . It was originally a 60kV 25 cycle line to the right of the pole was a tall berm supporting the Lehigh Vallie main line to Buffalo, N.Y. |
