Here is one of the "H" structures with guy wires to strengthen the line against storm damage. One weak pole going down could take many with it but with H structures, the damage would be limited. I once saw a photo of downed telephone poles as far as the eye could see caused by an ice storm because there was no reinforcing built into the line.
