This is the CD 701.6 Confederate Egg. Many were unearthed in the early 1990s in Richmond, VA. There condition varied. Some were heavily damaged. Some deformed by high heat when the building they were stored in was burned. Many survived with varying degrees of damage. A very high percentage of these Civil War insulators have fractures, hairline cracks, etc. The one I have for sale is one of the better ones that I have seen. It does have hairline cracks and there is some base chipping in that crude overpour base area. The color is a green blackglass. There are a few splotches of a lighter green jade like color. The surface is clean and the insulator will display well from all sides. The price guide values the better conditioned pieces at $400 to $500. I think this is one of the better copies of the Confederate Egg. THIS PIECE WAS OFFERED AT A PRICE OF $360. IT SOLD FOR THAT PRICE, WHICH INCLUDED THE SHIPPING COST.
