Raked Pole

Here is a definate line construction detail: On a corner like this, it is very advantageous to set the pole at an angle or "rake" as it is called. When the pole is raked like that it practically doubles the holding power against the wire pull in the opposite direction. In fact, in some cases the rake alone will hold the pull without having the downguy wires to the ground. But that is not good practice. It is better to "guy" the pole to the ground in case the line takes a severe hit and the pole wants to snap like a matchstick! This pole is on the Tillamook, OR. P.U.D. system. "Peninsula Line."
