This is a "built as" 115,000 volt structure that dead ends a few spans down the hill from the high mountain crossing east of town. Notice that the line tapped off of it has much smaller insulators and fuse cut-outs. That line is a main 25,000 volt distribution to the town and surrounding area. I can only guess that they decided later not to put a substation at the end of the high line and the tie point to the main north-south 115 kV is located 10 miles back. Only this portion is tied to another 25 kV line instead! This could be for salt air power leakage reasons since the Pacific ocean is less than a mile away. Or they just "screwed up"! Anyway it was handy to run the 25kV on the big line rather than build it under the unused portion. On the Tillamook P.U.D. system. |
