Not a "go-with" that turns up too often, the tin skirt on this DOMINION - 42 turns an otherwise dirt-common insulator into a very tough find! There seem to be only a handful of places in Ontario that these tin skirts were ever used in any significant number. Some can still be seen in use in the downtown part of Guelph, Ontario, but I have not personally seen any elsewhere. I have only had the fortune, in my short collecting career, of turning up a very few. The steel skirts were introduced in order to try and quell the damage of insulators in vandalism-prone areas, especially in urban regions. Kids throwing rocks would no doubt be thwarted by the heavy steel encasing the fragile glass beneath.

This example is in very good condition. The tin skirt has obviously been used, but the amount of rust/pitting on the piece is very minimal compared to many that I have seen. Someone has taken a buffing/wire brush wheel to the outer surface of the piece, giving it a nice, "worn iron" look. The Dominion - 42 underneath the iron is a light peach example in the [010] embossing.

I'm asking $32.00 U.S. plus shipping for this example. A scarce go-with in very good condition considering its intended use. I have seen several of these skirted Dominion-42s come up for sale with broken tabs, bent corners, bullet holes, dents, and of course, immense amounts of rust. This one is nice. I accept PayPal, and personal cheques or money orders from any member of ICON, or anyone I've dealt with before. Please feel free to email me for more photos, or with any questions. I encourage you to look through my "For Sale (Not Sold)" stock, and combine items to save on shipping. All the best!
