Here are two Russian insulators picked up from Howard Banks (Editor of Crown Jewels of the Wire) and now in my wife's collection of insulators. The Eagle Cap 2009 show was great for getting insulators because there was something for everyone. Email reply about these two insulators from Tom Katonak: Here's a little history on the CD 547 on the left (I don't know what the piece on the right is, or whether it's Russian) This piece was probably made in the Ukraine before 1916 (The double eagle embossing went away after 1916). It would have been "Russia" back in those days. The insulator is quite unusual because of the embossing, the depression glass color and the condition. I got this specific piece from one of my Ukraine suppliers in July 2001. I sold it to Mike Gay for $225. In turn, Mike sold it to Bill Tanner in 2004 (I think). Bill Tanner sold it as part of his collection to Howard Banks on 6 June, 2009. I think there are around six of these in captivity. |
