A view of 4th Street in Bay City, Oregon circa 1914. An open wire telephone line with three 16 pin crossarms is visible to the left. Note the middle crossarm is treated with some creosote like black preservative; which was common in this coastal area. This black crossarm becomes invisible on poles further up the street as it blends into the background. There is also an early use of lead sheath suspended cable coming down a pole and entering the Bell telephone exchange building. Next to the Bell building is the office of the Coast Power Co. Their power lines are visible on the right side of the street.
