An old postcard of Chuckanut Drive, along Puget Sound, a few miles south of Bellingham, WA. Note the open wire telephone line and even more spectacular, the multipart power line on the interurban trolley line running "out to sea" on trestlework in the water. Today, this is still one of the more famous scenic drives in Washington state and a great alternative to the ho-hum freeway from Bellingham to Seattle. The tel. line is now gone and so is the Pacific N.W. Traction Co. trestlework line, however one can still see a few pilings left out in the Sound. The 55kV multipart power line is also gone although a few remnants still remain. This line also yielded some very rare Thomas M-3250 lily-shell multipart insulators in the 1990's to some lucky N.W. collectors! (you know who you are ;) ! |
