CD 727 (on the right) is perhaps one of the most interesting and unique threadless designs. Apart from the straight skirt that is similar in style to CD s 728, 728.4, & 133, the pointed dome is like no other glass insulator. The only insulator to resemble CD 727 is the threadless porcelain U-987 squatty "Peak Top".

Only a handful of CD 727 units are known, all in olive blackglass. This is the only known forest green example. On the front skirt, a single glass dot with an olive whisp behind it. This is the example featured on the NIA's "Seldom Seen" webpage at: www.nia.org/seldom/photos/CD 727.htm (delete the space between 'CD' & '727'...the pictureposter dislikes this hyperlink for some reason).

A close-up of this insulator can be seen [id=233254371] .

CD 727 was originally attributed to the Confederate Army, and some examples were sold at a bottle show in Virginia in the 70s, the same state in which they were dug. For the CD specialist, CD 727 is a sought-after piece. For the threadless specialist, CD 727 is elusive. For me, CD 727 represents a truly beautiful utilitarian object.

This insulator has been a one of the most treasured pieces I have ever had the opportunity to display in my collection; it is time for a new home.

It is difficult to place a value on an insulator, particularly when only one unit in forest green is known. I am asking 13K for this example. Condition in NM; call for more information (563) 323-3746.
