Memorial Day Special: Port Side View USS North Carolina

This is a mosaic assembled by AutoPano from seven separate pictures. The antenna seen in the previous photo can be seen at the left. Above that is a searchlight and another optical range finder. A 5" 38 cal gun can be seen at the right. "38 cal" means the barrel is 38 times the bore diameter, or nearly 16 feet long. The 16" main guns had barrels about 60 feet long.

If you ever get a chance, be sure to tour one of these. Also check out the carrier Yorktown in Charleston harbor. It's a real honor to be able to see where so many of our young men gave so much of their early lives for the freedoms we enjoy.
