Things to watch when hunting.

Since there's a lot of folks who do more springtime hunting than I get to do, I thought it might be beneficial to post a photo of what early spring poison ivy looks like. Not everyone knows what this plant looks like in the early spring stages of growth and you'll not be pleased when you unknowingly find yourself up to your armpits in this while picking out that partially buried beehive. Very pretty, serrated edge leaves with an obvious red hue and high gloss when young. The vines are both a climber and a dense creeper, equally at home on a tree, a pole or across flat ground in large, thick patches. On the ground, they usually stand upright from 4 inches to 2 feet tall looking like tiny saplings with leaves at the top with bare stem below. This plant is commonly found across flat ground surrounding poles, up ditch sides and hanging down from crossarms. The plants in this photo are both climbing the fence and a creeper outside the fence.
