Photographed on December 27, 1908 before a major fire broke out within this business block. Note the enclosed electric arc light in the center foreground. With these there was an opaque inner globe with a burner (as seen). These required arc rod maintenance/trimming every seven to ten days. The clear glass outer globe provided thermal and weather protection.
