This street light pole sports a rarely seen (nowadays) mercury vapor street light with its separate ballast (not seen here). On the top of the metal pole is an interesting arrangement of take-off wires which lead to another street light.

The lights on this circuit are controlled from a master photoelectric cell and relay.

The street light fixture shown was manufactured by General Electric between 1955-1959. It is very probable that the pole and insulator brackets upon it date back to the 1920s. Originally this pole very likely had one or more short-bracketed, grandeur and upright-mounted "Washington" style incandescent fixture lamps within their glass globes.

The curved arms were added when the mercury vapor lights were installed. Photo courtesy of LGnet.
