Yesterday was the first day in a few that the weather was really clear here in North Georgia. Not wanting to waste the day entirely, and not able to go on the insulator hunt that I had wanted to go on, I decided to ramble around the new house me and my wife recently acquired. The area where we live has been known to be rich with history and Native American artifacts have been found all around. Since the backyard was dug up and dry for a change, I decided to get outside and do a little exploring. I haven't really walked around the house outside much since we got it, and the propertly extends about 5 acres back straight behind the house. After having no major luck finding any bird points or pottery, I thought I'd step into the edge of the woods, where I immediately noticed POLES on the ground!! What were they doing here??? Apparently, there is an abandonded telephone/power line that goes off into the woods behind my house. And low and behold, I found a pole with INSULATORS!! Not glass (darnit!!), but some nice porcelain spools. Here is picture of the pole just the way it was found. Looks like it was cut in half and someone propped it up in the ground as a joke. But that is only speculation. Can't really explain why they were so low to the ground. |
