The same location as the 1956 photo in ca. 1940. The main street in downtown North Bend, OR. The long US Coast Gaurd open wire defense line was pretty new in this photo and looks so ordinary that if you were an enemy spy you may just of thought it was an ordinary telephone company line running through town. Across the street are ancient power lines of the Mountain States Power Co. that were replaced. Looks like 2 or 3 2300 volt circuits and some really old transformers in use. This company had the Coos Bay service area since 1918 and some really old stuff was still in use. They were kind of an "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" company and made use with what they had. But this was all replaced in the previous 1956 photo! |
