I took this photo about 1955, I think. Two different power utilities are using this pole located in Grand Ronde, OR. The top line, in the classic "wishbone" cross arm formation, is a 57,000 volt line built by Mountain States Power Co.. It is coming from the east in the background of the photo from a substation owned by Portland General Electric Co. and is an intertie line serving Mountain States' service area to the west and the Oregon coast. MSP had very little of their own generating facilities and tied in with other companies via the N.W. Power Pool. The center line is a PGE 24,000 volt line from the substation to a lumber mill. The lower line is PGE 12,500 volt distribution for the area and stops about 1 mile west at the end of their territory. This line is gone today except for the PGE distribution, due to company mergers and bigger and better high tension lines in the area. |
