Having borrowed Brent Burger's excellent description of the rain-shed style of power insulator, I installed smaller size "Flappitybacks" on one of my yard poles. To see what style of insulators I replaced, [id=230958444]. They were pretty but just too large for the dimensions of the pole and cross arm. I now have, from left to right a light brown glazeweld Thomas U-958, a Thomas U-958 with a porcelain pin sleeve and a Thomas M-2115 multipart. The side bracket has a no-name Lima U-133 supporting my outdoor extension cord. This is my "mud" pole and the other one in the background is my glass pole. Eventually they will carry No.12 solid copper wire to run some lights in the yard.
