Close up view of the embossing. After some input from other collectors, there is an interesting possibility regarding the embossing. First, it is script which means it was hand engraved. Whoever did the engraving did put the crossbar on the 'A' in 'PATENT', but not on the 'A' in 'MAY'. Why? Perhaps is was the engraver's way of putting his 'mark' (or lack of a mark) on the mold he engraved. There are a number of other Hemingray insulators with a similar feature. Maybe the engraver left his mark more than once? We will probably never know but it's interesting to speculate on the possibility...................
