First off... Merry new year to all! A new year has confronted us, and I wish the best to all of you in 2009! I hope it turns out as well as 2008 has! Up for grabs this evening, and my first for sale post in the new year, is a rather nifty little Brookfield piece which just recently came out of the air locally, in London, Ontario. These pieces were used on a side-street circuit in old South London, similar to [id=224014754;this one]. What's nifty about this one is that it's one of the few I received that still has the original tie wire attached... and what a tie wire it is! My guess is No. 2 or No. 3 guage wire... it's 1/4" thick... and made of solid copper with the remains of it's cloth covering still in place.. The tie wire is particularly heavy duty, as it appears to have been wrapped around the insulator once, then wound around the line wire 4 times, and then wrapped around the insulator again, before being twisted on the rear 3 times to assure it didn't come undone! I can't say I've seen too many tie wires this heavy duty! Certainly a unique insulator with the associated tie, and for anyone that appreciates this sort of thing, a must have for sure! The insulator itself has some damage from the line crew that removed it. It looks like it took a hit in the rear skirt, and it has sustained a 3/4" vertical crack, with an associated fan crack, approximately 1 1/4" long. A nuisance of a bit of damage for sure, but the piece displays well, and it's the tie wire that will be of interest, not the insulator as much! I'm asking $15.00 U.S. plus shipping for this unique fellow. I do have a few others with hefty wire wires attached, although all of the insulators I received from this line crew appear to have substantial damage from removal, and very few still had the heavy tie wires attached. I don't know that too many places would have used the combination of classic, old signal glass, and such heavy duty tie & line wires... so do consider adding this piece to your collection! I accept personal cheques from any member of ICON, or anyone I've dealt with before. Please feel free to email me for more photos, or with any questions! Oh, and I've still got many insulators in the "Unsold" folder, here on the pictureposter. All the best, and happy new year! |
