Along with the horse and buggy and other great nostalgic scenery in this photo take note of the wooden "side-pin" pole steps on the far right. These extended up to around eight feet where (as seen) standard metal steps were used. I recall a few very old installations like this as a kid in the 1960s....and they were on ancient cedar poles. Wooden pole steps were identical to insulator-threaded side-pins except of course for their upward threaded portion. I have heard of these insulator "go-withs" rarely discussed among collectors. I'm assuming their purpose was to minimize personal injury if bumped into compared to their sharper-edged metal counterparts. |
