Here are the two circuits as they come from Lake Cushman. There are more taps on either side of this one feeding Peninsula Light substations. None of the taps have circuit breakers though so if there's a fault, both the breakers at the generating station and the Pearl Street sub in Tacoma open to isolate the fault. There's been a few instances where a nesting eagle and a failed lightning arrestor have caused one of the circuits to fail putting thousands in the dark. In such a failure they fix the line, but do not switch over to the remaining circuit unless their is extensive damage. Too much time involved in throwing all these selector switches and them switching them back. My lights blinked once (I'm fed off one of these taps) and noticed the next day that the selector for my sub had been switched. Not sure of the reason for this. |
