The U.S. Coast Gaurd's 1941 long open wire defense line is shown running through Rockaway Beach, OR. On it's way from Crescent City CA. to Port Angeles WA. Their line is on the middle cross arm, the lower arm belonged to Bell Telephone and the short upper arm was Southern Pacific Railroad's 1 Pair telephone line with a 3rd single wire for Morse Telegraph service. It is all gone now but some poles are still in service for local telephone use.
